I didn't like the season finale myself. Season 3 felt like a huge build up in a number of story arcs that by the end of the season were simply left hanging.

<p>I agree it was a total build up just be shocked with a THE END!! I absolutely became entranced by this show and I truly am sad it has early . I can think of a million way how the show could kept on going ..with Vanessa going to heaven and coming back as a fallen angel in return is now the hunted enemy and it could be mr.Chandlers again duty to make right ..or dr.Victor could have resurrected her . Ethan and lily could have met again . Dorian gray could look into that mirror and end his days of loneliness . The witches and vampires and werewolves and the apache tribes spirits come alive and should have had a epic finale if it was going to end .So upset and awesome show such as this has been cut short for the same typical shows already out there. This was unique and the acting was hands down perfection. I don't watch T.V. ever only this so now I am going to be really lost !! </p>

<p>I disagree with John Logan, Penny Deadful is not just about Vanessa.  It seems that the show is more around the growing kinship of Sir Malcolm and Ethan.  I see this show continuing with Sir Malcolm and Ethan possibly trying to find a cure for Ethan and in the process come in contact with other supernational creatures, some good, some bad.  But both men have an inner need to look beyond what is seen by normal folk.  Don't make Penny Deadful only about the fight for Vanessa's sole, but the continuation to search for what could be. </p>

<p>Agree. They started very slow to accelerate and compress all action in the final three episodes. Also characters like Dr Jekyll, Catriona and even Dorian Gray introduced just for the sake of having other characters, never really deepened, rather pointless. I was expecting for Mr Hide to appear while Jekyll and Victor were working at Bedlam, instead they gave us another 45 minutes long Venessa centered  episode which add almost nothing to the story. She could have remembered that thing in like 15 minutes. Don't get me wrong the episode was beautiful, but in a nine long season that kind of filler episodes are out of place. Especially knowing that this was the end, they should have done more to close storylines they left hanging as War Blade said. I'm disappointed right now, remembering the high expectation given by season one...  </p><p>I also don't agree that Penny Dreadful is only Vanessa Ives, since there are so many ways to carry forward the story, still being original and not repetitive (like many others show instead).  </p>
